As a keyboardist, songwriter and producer, Brian Culbertson has charted his own unique course in music. Culbertson burst on the scene in 1994 with Long Night Out, a chart-topping album of keyboard-led contemporary jazz tracks that he recorded in his college apartment. Flash forward to present day, Culbertson has been listening more and more to music that inspired him as a young musician, such as the Brecker Bros, Chick Corea, Al Jarreau, Pat Metheny, David Sanborn and others in the jazz-fusion world. He set out to write and produce a new album that would try to capture a little bit of the late 1970s and early 1980s spirit of music exploration, using only live musicians and real instruments. Titled Day Trip, the new project is like the daytime version of Culberton’s Another Long Night Out. Culbertson also founded and curates the annual Napa Valley, New Orleans and Chicago Jazz Getaways, which have attracted guests from all over the globe.
